$3,296 - $3,862 per month

A limited number of applicants with the qualifications most closely matching the City's needs will be invited to participate in the full selection process. This process will include evaluation of the standard City application and the applicant's resume. An in depth panel interview will be held and may include job related tests.

All applicants will be notified by mail or telephone if they are invited to participate further in the selection process. The selection process may consist of: Physical Agility/Performance Examination (Qualifying); Application Evaluation (Qualifying); Written Test (Qualifying); Qualifications Appraisal Interview (100%). Appointments are contingent upon successful completion of drug screen, psychological evaluation, extensive background check including a polygraph exam. Record of repeated criminal misdemeanors and/or felony violations or infractions of the law may be disqualifying.

Responsibilities
Under direct and indirect supervision, Police Officers perform a variety of duties involved in law enforcement and the prevention of crime.  Some duties performed in this position are:

  • Patrol assigned areas of the City in a car, bicycle or on foot.
  • Maintains community presence and / or responds to calls for service and takes appropriate action.
  • Responds to calls related to the protection of life and property, traffic incidents and other public safety emergencies.
  • Conducts both preliminary and follow-up investigations and collects evidence in disturbances, criminal incidents hazardous incidents, vehicle accidents and death.

Desirable Qualifications
Candidates with the following qualifications are encouraged to apply:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency required.
  • Some experience in law enforcement or a related field is preferred.
  • Possession of a P.O.S.T Basic Certificate.
  • Equivalent combination of the above qualifications will be considered
  • Possession of a valid Idaho Driver's license.
  • Ability to analyze situation quickly and objectively, to recognize actual and potential dangers and to determine proper course of action.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, run, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, crawl and lift 100lbs.
  • Ability to withstand exposure to cold, heat, noise, the outdoors, vibration, confining work space, chemicals, explosive materials, mechanical hazards and electrical hazards.

Salary

Salary will be commensurate with background and experience.  The salary range for the Police Officer position is $3,296 - $3,862 per month.
